re:Chat dull
Non-chatting seems to be one of the latest trends among gay men in chat rooms. I've noticed it similarly in chat rooms on other web sites. I think that part of the reason is that those that come in the chat rooms already know some others there & they immediately go into private chat.
In other cases, some who come into the chat room never have really chatted, for various reasons. Either they aren't confident enough to chat or they've suffered ridicule & insults from others in chat rooms in the past.
I also think that guys' attitudes have changed. A lot of guys now think that if someone's interested in chatting with them, they're say something or send them an Instant Message to chat. Others think that if they've taken the time to fill out an extended profile, then anyone interested should have enough sense to take the time to read it & know whether they're interested enough in the person to initiate some sort of contact. Of course, there's also those guys who think that slapping up a few hot photos of themselves (or even a few fake photos) will bring them all the friends & sex they want.
Also, it seems that the art of conversation has become somewhat lost, if not just mired down a bit. People today just don't know how to sit down & carry on an extended conversation, whether in person or in writing/typing. At the most, they know how to text a few lines. But they rarely expound on the subject at hand.
And of course, there are the guys that just come into the chat room for the purpose of hooking up for sex. They're not really interested in conversation.
All in all, I'm not sure the gay chat rooms will revive in popularity. It's a shame, really. Especially for those who rarely have the opportunity to actually meet others & who don't live in an area with a viable gay community.
